FAQ's

PRODUCT

Our primary fiber is baby alpaca, complemented by Peruvian Pima cotton and fine merino wool. We prioritize fibers native to Peru, selecting yarns for their luxurious feel, durability, and sustainability, ensuring each piece upholds our high standards of quality and wearability.

All Bare Knitwear garments are ethically made in Lima, Peru through small-scale workshops. We prioritize working with Peruvian-owned producers and women-led businesses.

Alpacas are gentle grazers with padded feet that cause minimal soil disruption. Their fiber contains no lanolin, so no harsh chemicals are needed during cleaning. Alpaca wool is also highly durable, making it a long-lasting, low-impact choice.

Less is more. Alpaca is naturally antimicrobial and odour resistant. Always follow the care instructions on the label and product page, and visit our Care Guide for more tips.

Bare follows four fit classifications: Slim, Classic, Relaxed, and Oversized. Each product page notes the fit, and our Fit Guide offers more detail to help you choose your preferred silhouette. Use our size charts on the Size Guide to find your size.

Occasionally, we restock popular styles during the fall/winter season. Join our email list to be the first to know. You can also reach out via our Contact Page, and we’ll do our best to connect you with a retailer that has your size in stock.

SUSTAINABILITY & ETHICS

Yes. We partner directly with Peruvian-owned businesses that provide living wages and safe, respectful working conditions. We work hands-on with our workshops—no middlemen—and regularly visit Peru to collaborate with our teams on the ground.

We prioritize low-impact production—from Oeko-Tex® certified dyes to biodegradable packaging. Many of our garments are made on manual knitting machines, a zero-energy process. Our knitwear is fully fashioned and produced under a zero-waste model. Our supply chain is consolidated in Peru and we group shipments to reduce our impact. We avoid harsh chemicals throughout the manufacturing process to preserve the natural integrity of our fibers. We only partner with producers who share our values, and every business decision we make prioritizes sustainability, with a constant focus on minimizing our environmental impact.

Yes, we source our raw materials from reputable suppliers who are RWS- and RAS-certified. These certifications ensure high animal welfare standards, responsible land management practices, and supply chain transparency.

Our knitwear is made in Lima, Peru, in two small workshops employing seven to ten artisans each. These artisans are highly skilled professionals, deeply committed to their craft. We consider our partners an extension of the Bare team, working closely with them on each design to preserve and honour traditional artisan techniques.

At the heart of Bare is collaborative craftsmanship. We build long-term partnerships with our artisans, ensuring they have a voice in the production process and empowering their craft. By using manual knitting techniques, we preserve traditional skills and provide steady, sustainable employment. We work closely with our workshops to plan production that offers year-round opportunities, ensuring artisans remain employed during slower seasons.
