A return home has meant a return to seasons. After living abroad for many years in a place where the sun reigned, something I was most looking forward to this autumn was layering myself in beautiful knits. Apart from my return home to Canada, this past year I have also been working in Paris, splitting my time between the two.

When I’m not working on projects in the city I stay a few hours away in the quiet countryside, in a small French village with cobblestone streets and stone houses. I walk to old coffee shops, read in the park and retreat from the busyness of Paris. Growing up in the forest gave me a strong need to create moments of calm amongst the chaos of life. Choosing to work the way that I do makes it difficult sometimes to find that balance. It means many hours of travel, time changes, being away from familiarity, a lot of problem solving, and a lot of solitude. 

It also means I get to create for a living in interesting places while working with new people and pushing myself constantly. My most sacred moments are when I’m wrapped in knits, drinking hot coffee at my desk with the windows open, watching chimney smoke drift over the village; when I’m hanging laundry next to the rose bushes; bundling up in scarves at the train station; and sitting on a Paris street corner with friends I adore.

This autumn on my recent trip to Paris I brought home with me, a special few pieces from Bare. A selection of knits to keep warm during long days at my desk, hours of travel, photographing projects, and cold evenings in the city.
