Bare Knitwear was born from a desire to combine heritage artisanship with modern design to preserve traditional handicraft and support artisan communities.
Brand founder Kelsey Adair knit Bare Knitwear's collection of hand crafted scarves and hats out of a small studio in North Vancouver, Canada in 2012. Throughout the years that followed, the search for honest, small scale production and luxurious fibres led Kelsey to Peru. After spending weeks meeting with suppliers and working directly with artisans in remote regions of the country, Bare Knitwear's first production order was placed from a hostel room high in the Peruvian Andes. Peru became the origin of Bare Knitwear products in the summer of 2014.
Today the brand continues to collaborate with small producers and artisan groups throughout Peru for the development of their signature alpaca, wool and pima cotton collections. Proud of the personal relationships the brand has developed with their partners, each design brought to life is intended to represent the collaborative process and care that goes into slowly developing each small batch collection.
The name Bare is symbolic of the natural, un-fussy and authentic beauty that anchors the brand aesthetic. Utilizing a variety of traditional and modern production methods, Bare Knitwear's edited collections are designed to challenge the fast fashion model and become heirloom pieces that provide refuge, ease and joy to people around the world.
